1. Drive through the golden gates

Golden Gate Highlands National Park is about 15 km east of Clarens – a good distance for a day trip. The R712 runs straight through the park to KwaZulu-Natal. Two tar roads – Blesbok and Oribi loops – turn off towards lookout points. Here you can see eland, zebra and even an oribi if you’re lucky. On the Oribi Loop there’s a raptor restaurant
