Outdated wiring and old buildings are a risky combination. Electrical circuits and fittings are often inadequate and in poor condition; the consequent overloading and short-circuits resulting not only in the frustration of blown fuses but potentially serious electric shocks and devastating fires. Problems should not be ignored and all electrical installations, including cables, switches, sockets and other accessories, should be checked at least once every ten years, and certainly when you move into a new home.
