Electrics are something to take seriously, particularly when it comes to old buildings. Outdated or substandard installations may result in the annoyance of blown or tripping fuses and, more importantly, present a real danger of fire and electric shock.
Fixing years of DIY or unmaintained work can be costly. When considering buying an old house, have an electrical installation condition report carried out by a qualified electrician at survey stage and act on the recommendations. Fitting heat, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors is recommended for added protection.
