Father of student killed by alleged drunken driver: This is 'the greatest hurt'

Inside her bedroom closet, the brand new white and gold tennis shoes stand ready for duty.

Amira Nairat was waiting for the snow to melt so she could wear the gift from her stepmother without getting them dirty.

The snow is now gone, but so is the 15-year-old girl.

Seated at the dining room table of their bi-level home in Chicago Ridge, Ill., just blocks from where "the greatest hurt" was inflicted, Mahmoud Nairat talks about losing his first-born child.

"There is no more hurt than what I have. This is the top hurt. I want the world to know," he said, through tears.

Accompanying him at the table are Amira's stepmother, Dina, and her three siblings, Shorouk, 12, Rayyan, 8, and Ameer, 1, as well as Richards High School teacher Haneen Alzoubi.
