Motorcycling and the state of grace

There are several tasks involved in the preparation of sports or racing motorcycles that offer potential for aesthetic satisfaction. When in the 1970s or ’80s I would have a customer for custom-built two-stroke exhaust pipes, I would censure myself for even taking the order, as it’s not easy to contemplate a process that will require close to 100 welds, each one requiring careful alignment of the edges to be joined. I ordered rolled-and-butted cones by phone and one
