Futurists are now crowing about the special days when English or German renewable power sources – wind and solar – have produced enough power to pretty much run their electrical grids. While this is progress toward the hoped-for carbon-free energy economy of the future, there is a two-fold problem: 1) the sun doesn’t shine at night and 2) as sailing enthusiasts know so well, sometimes the wind doesn’t blow.
