In this third of the Doyle, P.I. books, Doyle is hired by the curator of a Detroit Art Gallery. It seems nine valuable Egyptian statues were stolen from the gallery. Doyle and Poppy search the hotel for clues but they have to wait an extra day before they can get into a mysterious room with a door that just won’t open. While waiting for help to get into the room, they go up to Doyle’s newly rebuilt cabin and while in town they are given a request to exorcise a demon. Only the demon is something Doyle never expected. Back at the hotel, they wait for the ghost of a woman who hung herself years ago and prove she doesn’t exist. He offered Doyle a lot of money to take the case, so Doyle accepted gladly. He organized the case with the help of his partner Drew, his secretary Marge and his girlfriend Poppy to go to the casino to watch the Blackjack tables where the most cheating was going on. While on that case, Doyle was offered another to help protect a woman from Russian spies. She was being protected by the Witness Protection People but they had a leak and couldn't hide the girl until the trial without her being killed. Doyle and Drew staged a fake kidnapping of the girl and hid her at Poppy's apartment. Both cases where eventually completed but not without trouble for the witness. This book is a novella, shorter than a novel, but longer than a short story. It's the 7th Doyle book of the series.

Doyle finally pops the big question to Poppy. She accepts his proposal of marriage. Things seem to run smooth, untit a mystery man appears at the office and gets nosy about the wedding. Doyle isn't happy about people sticking their nose into his private life so he and Drew finally catch the man and question him. A phone call from an old enemy of Doyle's sets off another mystery. Is his life in danger or will the wedding be a target for revenge. After the wedding, Poppy gets kidnapped and Doyle rushes to find her. Will he save her from the clutches of the old enemy of his.
