About this series
Graphic blood, gore, and violence. 17+
From the Tales of Horror series, we find little Tommy playing in the basement...
Excerpt:
Tommy wasn't like normal kids, the cellar didn't hide anything from him. To him it was a cozy, dark, cool space where he escaped his parents for a little while and had his own adventures zooming around, fighting space creatures, winning games of chance, and trying to figure out why all those storybook people cared so much about those yucky girls they always have with them. Sometimes when he played, he peeked out the basement window at one of his neighbors' daughter, Jenny, and he thinks he gets it, but then she looks at him and he realizes she's just another dirty, cootie covered girl.
His parents didn't like him playing too much in the basement; they stored all their old junk down there and told him he could get injured playing with the boxes. Tommy didn't listen to that too much though, since there were just so many nifty things down there waiting to play props for his adventures. So he always goes down when they're not looking, and even when they caught him and scolded him he can't help but think about the next time the old place was going to be his playground for another fun filled afternoon.

Graphic violence - 17+ Book 3 in the Tales of Horror series Excerpt: By the by. Did you know that a human’s mouth will continue to move even after the head is mostly separated from the body? Little known fact. Now you finally have something to say at the Christmas party to the girl you’ve been eyeing since the 4th of July barbeque. “Hey sweetie,” you’ll say ‘cause you’re smooth like that, “nice fleece. Did you know that after near decapitation a human’s mouth will continue to flex for several minutes? Wanna go into the back and pretend that you’re nearly decapitated?” You’re welcome. “He’s just tryin’ to cope like the rest of us,” continues the default manager. “Cut him a break.” “Thanks for that, Pizza Guy, but I’ve known Scott his whole life and if you don’t give him a good whack in the ear now and then he’ll run all over and pee on the rug. Ain’t that right, Scott?” “What?” Scott replies, honestly not having heard any of this. “See?” I say, gesturing at my friend. The banging on the front door makes us all jump. It’s not the first time, but it thoroughly messes with us all the same. The doors are reinforced with the security gate that an employee lowered after the zombie who had eaten the old manager got up and tried to bash into the lobby through the glass door. The gate keeps the zombies out, but the caging effect is starting to get to each of us. Nothing like feeling trapped while the world is burning down around you. “Why couldn’t we be at the bar, again?” Scott asks. And even though it is the ninetieth time he has asked, I finally say, “I know, buddy. I sure could go for a pint right about now.” One of the patrons asks if there is any other way out. He’s thinking what the rest of us are: We can’t stay here forever. “Not really,” a female employee answers. “This is the only door, but there is a fire escape on the roof.” “The roof?” I ask, intrigued. “Can we go up? Can you show us?” “I…” she begins, looking at her manager with an uncertain expression, who just shrugs at her. “Sure, I guess.”
- Zombie Laboratory and Other Tales of Horror: Tales of Horror, #4
4
Book 4 in the Tales of Horror series. This time we have an anthology with 2 additional short stories added to follow Zombie Laboratory. Exerpt: He wasn't allowed to wear any clothing underneath the high level of hazmat suit he wore. He shivered in the facility's cool air a moment and looked blankly at the wall across from him while he got his bearings. It always took him a moment to get ready to leave the lab, especially with the way they set up the exit hall to the facility. He dressed in his worn, familiar, t-shirt, sweats and boxers, and then turned and left the sterile lab entry. The hall to the rest of the facility was lined with several video feeds of lab space, as well as scenes piped in from outside. Supposedly, it was there to motivate the people walking through the hall. The scenes of rotting corpses, undead creatures shuffling blindly past cameras and as they wandered aimlessly, or finally finding something warm blooded to devour messily, no longer really affected him even with the details in glorious high definition. It was nothing but a blur of images he saw day after day in the lab. He didn't need any more motivation to do the work, after all…generally saving mankind was motivation enough. It didn't mean that it was any less tiring though, nor did it make him any more interested in the images on the walls.
