For each day that passes as he awaits his anticipated murder trial, the public costs shouldered by Idaho taxpayers climb. The amount of money spent on the high-profile murder case already exceeds $3.6 million, the Statesman investigation found. The cost of Kohberger’s prosecution is heightened, financial studies have shown and legal experts told the Statesman, because the state plans to pursue the death penalty if a jury convicts him. We’re joined by the reporter who broke this story - The Idaho Statesman’s Kevin Fixler. #BestGuests: Kevin Fixler is an investigative reporter with the Idaho Statesman, just named reporter of the year in Idaho, in large part because of his incomparable work on the Moscow murders. He’s been following the gruesome story from the very beginning, and even traveled to Kohberger’s hometown in Pennsylvania. Crime and Justice Correspondent Matt Johnson is an EMMY® award-winning journalist. Prior to joining Court TV, Matt was a producer and contributor to documentaries for Investigation Discovery (ID) and Oxygen Network. His most notable reporting includes the O.J. Simpson trial in Las Vegas, Chad and Lori Daybell case, the Murdaugh Murder Mystery, the Robert Durst trial and the murder of rap icon Nipsey Hussle. Matt got his start as a storyteller as an on-the-scene anchor and reporter for local ABC, CBS and FOX stations in several cities, including Los Angeles, San Diego and Portland. In his spare time, Matt helps highlight cold cases with his award-winning true crime podcast, “True Crime Deadline”. Tara Malek is an Idaho licensed attorney practicing in state and federal Court in business and commercial litigation. Tara has experience in both civil and criminal law. #IdahoStudentMurders #TrueCrime #Idaho4 #IdahoStudentsTrueCrime #IdahoLatest #IdahoToday #MoscowMurders #TrueCrime #BryanKohberger #KayleeGoncalves #MadisonMogen #XanaKernodle #EthanChapin

Everyone's just trying to survive in a rough world. No one knows this better than the outspoken, unfiltered 83-year-old host Karmela Waldman, a Holocaust survivor. Her co-host son, Joel, is just trying to survive life as a father of three, husband, parental caretaker, and TV news correspondent. Each week, join this dysfunctionally dynamic mother-son duo as the two take a light look at all sorts of stories of survival, from surviving a son's murder to life as a CIA agent to the fame and fast fortune that come with being a hip-hop legend. Did we mention Karm is also a licensed therapist? So, no topic is off limits for these two pillars of podcasting who also break down the biggest news stories. One question always remains: Will Joel survive the survivor? Tune in to find out!
