Multiple reports have come out during the weekend stating that the Tampa Bay Rays are finalizing a deal with RHP Phil Maton. Although the length and financials are not readily available, this seems to be exactly what the Rays would pursue. Maton, a journeyman reliever, has had stops in 3 cities (San Diego, Cleveland and Houston) but it was with the Astros where his career numbers improved. A durable relief pitcher, he will be able to locate his fastball and mix it with his curveball and slider to hopefully become a trusted weapon for Kevin Cash.
