Description
Natalie Kathleen, Founder of Jibs, steps on to the New York Launch Pod to discuss her unique perforated leather sneaker-shoes for men, women and kids.
Three years ago at a dinner party, Natalie serendipitously came across a shoe created in Brazil. One of Natalie's friends introduced her to this quixotic design modeled after a traditional Brazilian beach shoe. After wearing these shoes for a few days on the hot NYC summer streets and receiving a lot of attention, Natalie threw aside her high heels and decided to start her company. Thus Jibs Life and the #jibsjourney began.
While the company is rooted in New York, the shoes are manufactured in Brazil under the supervision of someone Natalie refers to as the "Jimmy Choo" of sneakers. With a recycled PVC sole and the finest authentic leathers, Jibs currently come in three styles (Classic, Slim, and High Top) in a cornucopia of colors.
As the company has grown, Jibs has been able to focus on its core 25-35 demographic and build a community around its product line. One collaboration with W Hotels led to the hotel chain calling Jibs their favorite "shift shoe" and supermodel Joan Smalls go-to Off-Duty sneaker.
Go inside the competitive footwear and style industry as you listen to the episode to hear how Jibs has grown, the secret to its success, and the advantages and challenges of manufacturing in Brazil.
