Description

Lisa is joined by Zen Honeycut, the Founding Executive Director of the non-profit, Moms Across America, a National Coalition of Unstoppable Moms with the motto "Empowered Moms, Healthy Kids." Moms Across America’s leaders created over 1,000 community events in all 50 states to raise awareness about GMOs, toxins in the food supply, and other environmental issues that pose risk to the health of our families. The organization’s mission is to educate and empower mothers and others with actions and solutions to create healthy communities. Zen Honeycutt and Moms Across America initiated the first glyphosate testing in America and successfully petitioned Costco to remove Roundup from their shelves. She is the author of UNSTOPPABLE, Transforming Sickness and Struggle into Triumph, Empowerment, and Celebration of Community, the director of a short film called “Communities Rising” and the co-founder of the recently launched program called “The Neighborhood Food Network” whose mission is to create a parallel food system, one street at a time.Extensive Testing on 21 of the Nation’s Most Popular Fast Food Brands Reveals Alarming Levels of Toxins and Limited Nutritional Value (Fast food brands are also suppliers for school lunches) Out of growing concern for skyrocketing levels of chronic illness, mental health issues, violence, behavior and learning disorders, and autism in American children, Moms Across America, a national educational nonprofit, has initiated a Fast Food Testing Program to test for potential toxins in one of our nation’s most iconic, go-to nutritional sources- the fast food restaurant. Fast food is consumed by eight-five million Americans each day. Furthermore, many chains are suppliers of school lunches, thirty million of which are served daily to children. For millions of under privileged children, these meals are their only access to a full meal. To further investigate the status of a major source of food and nutrition for children as well as adults in America, Moms Across America commissioned extensive testing on 21 of the country’s most popular fast food brands (The 21 brands include the top 20 highest grossing brands as rated by the QSR50, in addition to In-N-Out Burger, which is ranked #33). In all, forty-two samples of fast food meals gathered from 21 locations nationwide were tested by the Health Research Institute. All 21 brands were tested for the most widely used herbicide in the world, glyphosate, 203 agrochemicals, 160 heavy metals, PFAS, phthalates, and mineral content. The top ten brands were additionally tested for 106 commonly used veterinary drugs and hormones, Vitamin B’s and calories. Two types of samples- three to four meals of each type- from each of 21 locations across the United States were shipped to the Health Research Institute in their original packaging, untouched and frozen. At the invitation of the Senate Agriculture Committee, results of the Fast Food Testing Program were shared at a congressional briefing on food toxicity in school lunches this October 17 in Washington, DC.Moms Across America (MAA) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate and empower mothers and others with actions and solutions to create healthy communities. Their motto is “Empowered Moms, Healthy Kids”. The national coalition of mothers is dedicated to ensuring that the food we eat and feed our families is safe and healthy, with an emphasis on eliminating GMOs and glyphosate, the key ingredient in Roundup herbicide, from our food supply. A powerhouse activist organization, MAA reaches as many as more than four million followers on social media each month and millions in person with local events across the country. Among its many successes, the group is responsible for having initiated the first-ever glyphosate testing in tap water, urine, and breast milk in 2013. And it was their petition that convinced Costco to stop selling Roundup in their stores. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, i
