Recently, some critics of U.S. immigration policy have claimed that there is an “invasion” of illegal immigrants at the southern U.S. border. Some have even claimed that the brutal Hamas attacks in Israel illustrate the need to close the U.S. border. Is this comparison meaningful? There is a serious problem at the U.S.-Mexico border, but can we honestly call it an “invasion”? What if anything does it tell us about the threat posed by immigration to national security?
