Description
Claudine Gay recently resigned her position as president of Harvard University. While the news has sparked debate about university policies about free speech, antisemitism and DEI ideology, little has been said about how it crystalizes higher education’s widespread plagiarism problem. Institutions work from the premise that plagiarism is wrong, but almost no intellectual energy is spent to dissuade potential plagiarists or explain why plagiarism is wrong. In this week’s New Ideal Live, Ben Bayer and Dan Schwartz will expose academic ethicists’ failure to examine questions about plagiarism that students and teachers desperately need. They’ll explain why today’s philosophical climate necessitated this outcome, and offer Objectivism’s alternative.
