Description
In this episode, we are joined by Rabbi Rick Jacobs, the president of the Union for Reform Judaism, serving over 1.5 million people. Rabbi Jacobs discusses his experience traveling to Israel to provide aid during the war, the connection between the reform movement and Israel, and his involvement with various Israeli protest movement groups. We also hear from JPPI Senior Fellows Rivka Ravitz and Shmuel Rosner, who discuss the findings of a recent JPPI survey. The survey indicates that 74% of the Jewish public in Israel is confident in their victory in the war, while 81% believe that Israeli society is united. Additionally, the survey reveals that the Israeli public has a high level of trust in IDF soldiers and commanders, but low trust in the government and very low trust in Prime Minister Netanyahu. The survey included 800 respondents, with 600 from the Jewish sector and 200 from the Arab sector. The panelists also delve into the topic of Haredi non-participation in the military. They discuss the draft exemption legislation that was set to pass before the war, which would have granted young Ultra Orthodox individuals full exemption from the draft. They explore whether the war may serve as a paradigm shift for the Haredi community and its views on serving in the IDF.
