Rachid Hami’s autobiographical film “For My Country” (2023, Pour la France) tells the story of two brothers as they move from Algeria to France, and to Taiwan. When the younger brother passes away suddenly at a military academy, the older sibling spends the next years finding justice.In real life, Rachid Hami’s brother Jallal passed away in 2012 at the age of 24 from a hazing incident one month into attending Saint-Cyr Military Academy. Prior to his death, the two brothers had spent their final days together in Taiwan. “For My Country” - shot in Taiwan, Monaco, and France - premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2022.
