Why do you think Jesus used imagery to help describe himself and his purpose?

What are some ways Jesus is like a vine and his followers are like branches?
What comes to mind when you hear the Biblical phrase bearing fruit or being fruitful?
How and why do you think God “prunes” his children and followers?
