Description

Our Featured Film is “The Field Trip,” a documentary short created by filmmakers Mike Attie and Meghan O’Hara. In the spring of 2017, Attie and O’Hara captured video of some Witch Hazel and Farmington View Elementary School students during their field trip to JA BizTown.
Sponsored by Junior Achievement of Oregon and SW Washington, JA BizTown is a one-day economic simulation for students in grades 4-6 where they take on the challenge of managing a business.
“The Field Trip” is described as an observational portrait without titles, interview, or voice over. According to O’Hara: “It is rooted in the children’s perspective; we see their struggles and perseverance throughout their first day in the ‘working world.’”
The film was invited to premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and was selected by the New York Times as its pick of the festival! You can watch the film as part of their Op-Docs series.
So cool and way to go students! Congratulations!
