Description

Every spring, the danaus plexippus butterfly, also known as the monarch, migrates north to lay the next generation on milkweed plants. It does this until it makes its way as far from Mexico to Canada. Then a 'super-generation' that lives as long as eight months makes its way back to Mexico to overwinter in oyamel fir trees which create a bubble of temperate air for them to live in. Who says board games can't teach you something?Today on Two Wood for a Wheat, we review Elizabeth Hargrave’s big box follow-up to Wingspan. It’s Mariposas, a colorful nature-themed game about the northern migration of monarch butterflies. We also discuss the happy variety and rude surprises provided by variable scoring.Leave us a review on Apple podcasts: https://tinyurl.com/y2eyvquxRead Tony's blog: https://boardgamegeek.com/user/maxlongstreet/blogsListen to more episodes on Spreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/show/two-wood-for-a-wheatVisit our website: http://twowood4awheat.com/02:35 Rome & Roll03:38 Welcome To06:08 Calico, My City, Castles of Tuscany, Renature, Azul, New York Zoo, Curious Cargo07:20 Wingspan & Tussie Mussie 07:37 FEATURE REVIEW Mariposas28:23 FEATURE DISCUSSION Variable Scoring30:18 Pipeline31:37 Lords of Waterdeep, Voyages of Marco Polo32:49 Underwater Cities33:57 Rising Sun34:45 Gaia Project, Terra Mystica, Mariposas36:09 Race for the Galaxy37:23 Voyages of Marco Polo38:20 Mariposas39:01 Blood Rage40:28 Isle of Skye & Cartographers42:04 Maracaibo42:53 Paladins of the West Kingdom43:37 Tiny Towns, New Frontiers, Rome & Roll
