Description

Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 06 Episode 13 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news on a beautiful bright, sunny and warm Thursday morning 13 July 2023. Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In rugby league: Brad Fittler’s bold selection calls paid off in ORIGIN III at Accor Stadium last night, highlighted by a double to debutant Bradman Best, and whose quick hands opened up space for speedster Josh “The Foxx” Addo-Carr to light up over 75,000 fans with the try of the Series in a 24-10 famous win for New South Wales. James Tedesco rewarded Fittler for his loyalty with a classy display at the back while South Sydney star, Cody Walker was named Man of the Match while Maroons forward Reuben Cotter was awarded the Player of the Series. Whatever the future holds for Brad Fittler, he can at least celebrate today having restored State pride in avoiding an ORIGIN Series maroonwash by Billy the Kid and his Queensland raiders! In rugby: So it’s France vs Ireland for the World Rugby U20 Championship 2023 title this weekend, England vs South Africa for third place, Wales vs Australia for fourth, Georgia vs New Zealand for fifth, Argentina vs Fiji for sixth place and Japan vs Italy to see who is relegated for 2024. And at the Tour de France: Belgian sprinter Jasper Philipsen posted his fourth stage win from Clermont-Ferrand to Moulins in central France yesterday, taking his career tally to six Tour de France stage wins. Philipsen navigated his way through traffic at an average speed of 66Km per hour in the last kilometer to join Mark Cavendish as the only active rider with at least four stage wins in a single Tour. There were no major changes in the general classification with Jonas Vingegaard keeping his 17-second lead over Tadej Pogacar, while Aussie, Jai Hindley remained in third place. And at Wimbledon: World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that his Father likely video recorded rival Novak Djokovic while he was training at Wimbledon ahead of a potential final clash. Both Djokovic and Alcaraz, have made the semi-finals; trained on Monday at the practice courts, and while access is restricted to members of the public, players can find themselves training alongside one another and view across. According to a Serbian media outlet, Alcaraz's father closely followed the events at Djokovic's training and was even spotted recording everything. In Sportsbiz: WNBA games on ESPN are averaging 548,000 viewers, up 46% from the 2022 season. On ABC, WNBA games are averaging 647,000 viewers, up 18% on 2022. The WNBA Draft was the most viewed WNBA Draft since 2004 and the opening game between the Phoenix Mercury and Los Angeles Sparks received the best opening game ratings in 11 years. Higher TV ratings are extra important for the WNBA as their current deal with ESPN only allows them to a maximum US$25Million per season broadcast revenue, which is very little compared to most sports. This deal expires in 2025 and the better ratings will allow the WNBA to leverage for a much more profitable deal. In combat sports: Watch out Elon, Zuck means business. Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg is training the house down, judging by a photo of the tech guru with UFC Champions Israel Adesanya and Alex Volkanovski. On Wednesday, Kiwi-Nigerian star, Adesanya posted photos of Zuckberg training with the two UFC teammates and it’s safe to say the Facebook boss is looking in great shape. The rivalry between the tech gurus has ramped up in recent weeks after Zuckberg launched Threads — an app that is very similar to Twitter and one that users have flocked to as Twitter’s popularity plummets under Musk’s leadership. An MMA “Battle of the Billionaires” fight between the boss of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp & Threads against the owner of Tesla, Space X and Twitter would draw massive interest and settle the rivalry between the tech bosses once and for all.
