In BIG BREAKING NEWS for Women’s sports – India’s cricket board earned US$572Million on Wednesday as it announced the winning bids to own five teams in their inaugural Women’s Premier League tournament, which is scheduled for a March start. Three of the five women’s league franchises – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore – already own IPL teams. Of the other two joining them now, one is owned by one of the world’s richest men, Gautam Adani, who made the highest bid of approximately US$158M to purchase the Ahmedabad team, and Capri Global Holdings Limited who paid US$92.5M for Lucknow. Mumbai paid US$111M, Bengaluru paid US$110M and Delhi paid US$99M for their own Women’s teams respectively. In rugby – the HSBC World Rugby Sydney 7s starts at 1pm today with a cracker: Fijiana-Great Britain then USA-Canada, Japan-France, NZ-Papua New Guinea and Fijiana playing again at 7pm against USA. The Mens games start at 3.22pm with our tip to win the Sydney 7s - Samoa versus Ireland, Fiji battle Tonga at 4.50pm and Australia-Great Britain at 5.24pm Fiji time. In rugby league – the Maori All Stars will take on the indigenous All Stars at Rotorua International Stadium on Saturday 11 February — and both squads are stacked with representative talent. Joseph Manu, James Fisher-Harris, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Joseph Tapine headline the Maori side. While the indigenous All Stars boast Josh Addo-Carr, Nicho Hynes, Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker and Jack Wighton. The indigenous side have also named two players without NRL contracts — Kierran Moseley and Bailey Butler. In boxing – Conor McGregor is facing accusations that he punched, kicked and threatened to drown a woman on his yacht in Spain last summer, which he denies. The unidentified woman told Spanish police that the Mad Irishman kicked her in the stomach, punched her in the face and threatened to drown her, so she jumped off the boat and swam to safety.
