In rugby union – Wallabies Head Coach, Dave Rennie has named a 44-man Rugby World Cup 2023 squad which he believes has “genuine depth and competition for places.” It includes 16 players with 10 Tests or less experience and three players with 80 caps or more in Kurtly Beale, Michael Hooper and James Slipper. The Wallabies Squad features a bunch of Islanders: Forwards: Allan Alaalatoa, Taniela Tupou, Folau Fainga’a, Izack Rodda, Rob Leota, Pete Samu, and Rob Valetini. Backs: Quade Cooper, Noah Lolesio, Len Ikitau, Hunter Paisami, Samu Kerevi, Kurtley Beale, Mark Nawaqanitawase, and Jordan Petaia. In the NFL – Tom Brady is No. 1 in the NFL once again. The six-time Super Bowl champion has taken over the top spot on the list of highest-paid NFL players of all time with earnings of US$303Million through 22 seasons. Brady now 45 had his highest single-season earnings in 2021 at US$39.4M. In football – no doubt online betting and TV viewership go hand in hand. The FIFA World Cup final recorded 16.8 million viewers on FOX — the most watched Men’s World Cup game on US TV ever. Spanish-language coverage on Telemundo in the US drew another 5.5 million viewers; together they generated 7.9 million bets. In combat sports – “I already disrupted boxing; now it is time to disrupt MMA,” Jake Paul said in an announcement on Friday. The YouTuber signed a multi-fight deal with the Professional Fighters League, in which he will make his MMA debut in 2023 in PFL’s all-new Super Fight division, exclusively on PPV. I live for the day Jake Paul gets bashed up in the ring – one day Mafatu.
