If you haven't seen The Mandalorian (*cough* Liam *cough*), you're missing out on more than just a cute puppet and Werner Herzog. Instead of green or blue screens, Season 1 utilized LED backgrounds called The Volume that allowed for a completely virtual world to be the backdrop of the show. For the first time, you could move a mountain or shoot during golden hour all day long. This is the future of production, and Season 2 looks to be even crazier. We needed to take a deep dive into this technology, which is why our guest for this episode is Ian Milham, the Virtual Production Supervisor for Seasons 1 & 2 of The Mandalorian. He's the one who can move the mountain in the background of a shot, and he's the one that spoke with Host Mike Pecci about the technology that is going to change our industry. Ian bridges the distance between video games and film production with his experience at LucasArts, being the Art Director for Dead Space, and now with ILM and Disney, so be prepared for a nerdy deep dive into video games, virtual production, and maybe get a look at what's to come with Season 2 of The Mandalorian.
