The underrated Hal Ashby always got great performances out of his actors during that incredible run he had in the '70s. In Coming Home, he uses a plethora of classic songs---so many classic songs---to back up his stars' excellent work. Oscar winners Jon Voight and the remarkable Jane Fonda are romantic and sexy together. He's a veteran who returns from Vietnam unable to walk, while Bruce Dern comes back unable to cope. Fonda's married to Dern, but falls for Voight. Triangular problems! This teeth-chatter about Coming Home got quite political about government and war, so perhaps that requires a trigger warning for those who don't agree with the Ellises' liberal views.
