As one of the first major pots of prize money associated with the Ocean Decade, Taylor couldn't help but feature on this episode the three amazing and innovative companies who won the Ocean Innovation Prize, a $1 Million prize presented by the Blue Climate Initiative in collaboration with the Sustainable Ocean Alliance. The prize supports innovations that mitigate climate change through ocean related strategies. Out of 236 entries and 21 semi-finalists, all three winners are exploring innovative ways to make seaweed a major ocean climate solution.
In this episode, Taylor talks to Noryawati Mulyono, the director of Biopac, a company exploring a seaweed-based solution for a plastic-free ocean from Indonesia; Alexia Akbay, the CEO/co-founder of Symbrosia, a startup company making a seaweed feed supplement that reduces livestock methane emissions by up to 90% from the USA; and Yasmine Encelade, the head of business development for SMO Solar Process, a company focused on a carbon capture and energy from Sarguassumin Guadeloupe.
