Description

The Chargers have finalized their coaching staff for the 2023 season with several changes, additions, and promotions. Derek Ainsley has been promoted to defensive coordinator, Tom Donal to passing game coordinator and secondary coach, Jeff Howard to linebacker coach, and Kellen Moore to offensive coordinator. This is the latest development in the Chargers' coaching staff before the draft. Each coach has experience in the respective field and the Chargers are confident in their new staff for the upcoming season.

The conversation is about the recent hiring of assistant coaches for a football team. Will Harris was hired a month ago and will be the Assistant Secondary Coach. He previously worked at Georgia Southern University, where his defensive unit ranked in the top 10 of Red Zone defense. Phil Shia, Mike Hestan and John Timo have also been hired as Assistant Coaches. The addition of Harris is seen as a great opportunity for him to move from the college side to the NFL side. The new coaches will all work together with Tom Donatello to help the team improve.

Derek Ainsley recently made the move from the University of Washington to Georgia Southern University. Ainsley's journey started with Snoop Dogg's Youth Football League, and he has been a part of teams such as Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Dixie College, San Jose State, and the University of Southern California. At USC, he was part of four Rose Bowls, including the 2005 National Championship game. He has also spent time with the Seahawks and the Canadian Football League.

SCHA has also been added to the coaching team. He has spent the last three seasons directing the offense at Hutchinson Community College, and in 2021 they had a rush average of 273 yards per game. He has also been the offensive line coach at Texas A&M Kingsville, and was part of Rams' victory in the 2008 New Mexico Bowl. With both Ainsley and SCHA on board, the team hopes to build a high-powered offense led by Kellen Moore.

Harris is pleased with the success of his cornerback coach, Mike Hek, who has been promoted to work with the defensive side of the ball as a front seven specialist. John Timmy, who is from the University of Washington, has been with the team for a few years and has been promoted to assistant defensive line coach. Brandon Staley is the defensive coordinator and there are now 10 people working on the defense, as well as a lot of assistants and quality control coaches working on the offense. Harris believes that these promotions and additions to the coaching staff will help to ensure that the team is successful and that young minds are given an opportunity to contribute.
