The Los Angeles Angels can't seem to get out of their own way once again, as they drop game 3 to the Orioles, 3-1. Griffin Canning had a decent start on the mound, although errors and issues behind him caused Canning to have to throw more pitches than necessary, leading to the O's taking a 3-1 lead. That was all it took with Baltimore's lockdown bullpen, and despite a Mike Trout home run, the Angels couldn't muster enough offense to climb back in it. Speaking of Trout's home run, it was good to see him make the adjustment as we spoke about yesterday. We'll give you all the details in segment 1.
Then, Phil Nevin and the Angels' front office are NOT happy about the new baseballs being used in the Southern League, particularly because that's where the Halos' AA affiliate, the Rocket City Trash Pandas, play baseball. The new ball that MLB is trying out is affecting players both on the mound and at the plate, and it makes it difficult for the Angels to get a good read on their best prospects in AA. Why is MLB doing this, and will it last? We'll talk about it in segment 2!
Plus, we owe Matt Thaiss an apology. The Angels' catcher has had quite a turnaround since the beginning of the season, hitting well and playing a much better catcher than the first few weeks. What changed? We'll dive into what has caused this turnaround for Thaiss in segment 3!
