(5/15/23) This is make-or-break week for resolving the Debt Ceiling debate; the next discussion comes tomorrow. Market futures are somewhat elevated on hopes the question can be put to rest. Media threats of Social Security payments in jeopardy and the US will default on its debts. That's not going to happen. What will happen is government offices shutting down and non-essential workers being furloughed. No one in Washington wants to see that, so our bet is the debate will be resolved, the debt ceiling raised, and it's back to business, as usual.
