Loyalty is one of our most frightening precepts.On its surface, an absolute dedication to ideology, a nation, or a person might seem honorable. Often, in fact, loyalty is considered the most prized of attributes one might find in a man or woman.But unless you’ve seen loyalty in truth, you may want to reserve your judgments on its worth.For there is no trespass which can not be excused with loyalty. There is no line that loyalty will not let you cross. There is no limit to the cruelties loyalty may let you commit.Today’s story will let us see the furthest limits to which loyalty might push us, by putting us in the shoes of a soldier faced with unthinkable duties. In the last months of a war he does not yet know has all but ended, he’ll be pushed to carry out orders beyond the scope of anything he’s ever, even in his worst nightmares, thought could come to pass.
