Smartphone images of digital ulcers provide a clear picture of disease progression for the first rheumatology visit Dr Anastasia Madenidou (The University of Manchester, UK ) and Dr Graham Dinsdale (Salford Royal Hospital & The University of Manchester, UK) join Latika Gupta to discuss their recent manuscript which reports a 49-year-old male patient who developed systemic sclerosis -related digital ulcers, and who took the initiative to take smartphone images of his ulcers. Here, Dr Madenidou and Dr Dinsdale highlight the use of smartphone images to inform best clinical practice and future research due to the possibility of remote monitoring, and the use of a documented trajectory of disease informing a diagnosis.
