Description

Designers are puzzled, sometimes, about whether their work is Modern, Postmodern or something else. This podcast is based on the Preface to Tom Turner's book, published in 1996, on City as Landscape: a post-Postmodern view of design and planning. It has short explanations of how Modernism, Postmodernism and post-Postmodernism have influenced urban design and landscape architecture - concluding with a wish that 'the city of tomorrow will shine as a feast of landscapes'. Tom recommends the Wikipedia entries on the three '-isms' for background information.

Tom Turner is the author of books, eBooks, blogs and videos on urban design, garden design and landscape design - including a book on City as Landscape. He publishes selections from books and other material as podcasts. They deal with the history, theory, position and prospects for what Geoffrey Jellicoe called 'the most comprehensive of the arts': landscape architecture.
