Description
In this video, Dr. Matthew Kappus, MD, Medical Director of Living Donation, Liver Transplantation and Assistant Professor of Medicine, Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology at Duke University School of Medicine shares how his search to fill a void in treating the frailty of liver patients lead him to nutrition. It was a journey he had to figure out on his own, since there is no formalized pathway to nutrition. He uses the liver frailty index to compare and contrast the effectiveness of interventions, whether its nutrition intervention or physical therapy intervention. Dr. Kappas stresses that nutrition should not be an afterthought for it is not understood by all, and often overlooked. Nutrition affects every practice and it’s important for young physicians to have an open mind and find creative ways to incorporate nutrition into their practice.
