Description

In Shakespear’s Sister she was known as Marcella Detroit, but for most of her career, she has gone under the name Marcy Levy. It may surprise you to hear that Marcella, who sang lead vocals on their biggest hit ’Stay’, was already a successful songwriter before teaming up with Siobhan Fahey. She co-wrote the Eric Clapton classic ‘Lay Down Sally’ with George Terry in 1977, and sang backing vocals on ‘Wonderful Tonight’ amongst other tracks. Her early work includes touring with Bob Seeger in the band Julia, singing backup vocals on his ‘Back in ’72’ album, and even playing support with her band Julia at a David Bowie gig. She has worked with numerous artists over the years, and after the success of Shakespear’s Sister, who eventually, and not on the best of terms, split, she continued with a solo career. In 2019, Shakespear’s sister reformed, and Marcella and Siobhan were able to make peace again. The interview is wide-ranging and provides a fascinating insight into a prolific songwriter and artist, who continues to make great music today.Connect with me on Instagram; steve.blame Thanks to POP; The History Makers insanely wonderful talent booker: #ArchieCMichael Hosted on Acast.
