Description
Welcome back to THE sports law podcast!! This episode Dan Wallach is joined by Ryan Butler (@ButlerBets). On the ballot this year in California are two sports betting initiatives for either online sports gambling or in-person sports gambling. (4:52) The first option is ballot initiative 26 which would legalize in-person sports gambling at Native American casinos and licensed racehorse tracks. The second option is ballot initiative 27 which would legalize online sports gambling. Ryan Butler of iGaming NEXT (@iGamingNEXT) joins to help break down what the future landscape of California sports betting will look like. A recent polling shows that both ballots are not favorable and are projected to fail. Online sports books have already pulled advertisements from California. Due to some tension, Ryan doesn't foresee legalization until possibly 2030 unless drastic compromises are made. Ryan also gives insight into news on the Texas sports gambling front.
