Description

On the 20th of November, the football World Cup will be kicked off at the 60,000-seat Al Bayt stadium in Doha. And while almost everyone will be concentrating on what is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, the stories of thousands of migrant workers who built the stadium and other World Cup related projects will inevitably be overshadowed. What people won’t know is just how many Indian workers died while working for companies linked to the tournament. Because to find that out is nearly impossible.Indian Express’ Mihir Vasavda undertook an 8-month long investigation to do just that, and eventually managed to track down the families of nine workers who died while doing jobs linked to the World Cup. In this episode, he joins host Shashank Bhargava to talk about what his investigation revealed about the plight of migrant workers in Qatar, their gruelling working conditions, and what their families have to suffer.
