Description

Sandra Herrera and Lisa Roman run through the latest news in women’s soccer around the globe. After the conclusion of the Women’s 2022 Euros, the Women’s World Cup of 2023 is the next major tournament on the horizon. Sandra and Lisa discuss the teams that have already qualified for the World Cup - including the US and Canada - and which teams still have to fight for a spot - England and Germany. This week US Soccer announced that the United States Women’s National Team would be traveling to Europe for a pair of friendlies in October in preparation for the World Cup. The USWNT will play in London at Wembley Stadium against European Champions England on October 7. International soccer doesn’t stop there, the FIFA U-20 World Cup kicks off next week with the US fighting for a World Cup. The US Roster features some familiar names in the NWSL like Portland Thorns’ Olivia Moultire and youngest NWSL star at San Diego Wave FC Jaedyn Shaw.
Across the NWSL, the latest news involves league sponsors Voyager recently filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. With the digital cryptocurrency’s original deal with the NWSL giving players a sum to digitally trade, where do the players stand now? USWNT and Angel City star Christen Press will be inducted into Stanford’s Hall of Fame along with the university’s first all-female athletic HOF class. Plus, it wouldn’t be a News and Notes without a big trade - Racing Louisville has traded $30,000 in allocation money to OL Reign in exchange for the playing rights for Chinese international Wang Shuang. All this and more!
