A candid discussion about food and domestic life in Ancient Israel with Dr. Cynthia Shafer-Elliott at William Jessup University near the Central/Northern California city of Sacramento. Dr. Shafer-Elliott holds positions at the University as Associate Dean of the School of Theology and Leadership as well as Associate Professor of Bible and Archaeology. Dr. Shafer Elliott owns a Ph.D. earned while studying at the University of Sheffield in the UK. Dr. Cynthia Shafer-Elliott is an experienced field archaeologist who has spent a number of years excavating and digging around in ancient Israel. She is the author of the book, “The Five-Minute Archaeologist in the Southern Levant,” a user-friendly exploration of some basic concepts within archaeology as well as the techniques and methods used by archaeologists in the field of archaeological exploration. Dr. Shafer-Elliott is also the author of “Food in Ancient Judah: Domestic Cooking in the Time of the Hebrew Bible.” On this podcast, we will speak about just how much we know about ancient Israelite families; how they lived, their domestic lives, the types of foods they ate, what went into their daily food preparations, and so much more.
