Description

Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases OPEN UP A BIT and KEEP THINGS TO YOURSELFIn this English lesson I wanted to help you learn the English phrase, open up or open up a bit. When you get to know someone, you start to share things about your life. You start to open up a bit. Sometimes you meet someone and you're not their friend yet but you slowly start to spend time together. And eventually you become friends because eventually you'll start to open up a bit when you're talking to each other. You'll talk about your families and your feelings and what's going good in life and what isn't going good. You'll just open up a bit and start to share. This often happens when people start dating each other. At first, they're more reserved and they don't talk about their personal life too much, but eventually they open up a bit and they start to talk about other things that are happening in their life that normally they would've kept private unless they're talking to someone that they trust. When you talk to someone you trust it's easy to open up a bit.WANT FREE ENGLISH LESSONS? This is the opposite of open up a bit. When you keep things to yourself, it means you're a very private person. It means when you talk to other people, you don't talk about everything in your life. Maybe you talk about simple things, but you don't talk about how you're feeling. You don't talk about the fact that you had a bad day at work. Instead of opening up a bit, you tend to keep things to yourself. I usually keep things to myself when I first meet someone, especially someone who I don't know very well at all. Well, because I just met them. I'm not making sense there, am I? Let me rephrase. When someone new starts at work, I tend to keep things to myself for a while before I open up a bit, because I like to get to know someone before I talk about other things besides just work or the weather.Anyways, to review, when you open up or when you open up a bit it means you start to talk about more things because you're comfortable talking to that person. And when you keep things to yourself it means you're just a little more private. You're a private person and you don't want to talk about everything. But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Mahdi. Hi Mahdi. Hello Bob. Wow, the flowers are blossoming nicely. I think Jen has a lot of hard work to do in the upcoming few days. And my response, yes, for sure. The last few weeks is when we harvest like mad and sell like crazy. We're always hoping too that frost doesn't happen. We don't like to lose some of the crop near the end.So yes, because I live in Canada and because we have winter and we have fall, there is a possibility that the weather will turn early in the fall. Right now it's actually September 12th today. I'm making this video a little bit early. And it's 31 degrees that is abnormal for this time of year. Normally around this time of year it's about 20, 25 degrees at the most. So that's a little warm and we're happy about that. That will just keep things growing nicely. What we're worried about is frost. We don't want it to go below zero or down to zero at night. Thankfully the nights are still quite warm in this area. But towards the end of September and the beginning of October, we start to get a little bit stressed and we start to get a little bit worried. Because if it goes to -1 or if it goes to -2, some of our flowers don't like that. Some of our flowers are fine, but some of them will die if it gets that cold. And it's no Support the show
