Description

By announcing that winning a division no longer results in an automatic berth in the Pac-12 Championship Game, the logical next step (at some point) in the conference is to get rid of divisions all together. One thing divisions have done is allow for some sort of structure when it comes to scheduling conference matchups. The new rules should allow for some exciting (potential) alterations to how that is done.
In this episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin dives into the potential future scheduling plans of the conference under commissioner George Kliavkoff. There are some matchups that need to become "protected rivalries" between schools that are not traditional rivals--to ensure the maximum number of eyeball-catching games each year. Changes can be made for the better, but some things--like old school rivalries--should most definitely stay in place as well.
Today's show wraps up with the next football coach evaluation in the conference, today looking at Oregon State's Jonathan Smith. He took over a dreadful Oregon State program in 2018 that went 1-11 in 2017, and in 2021 he had the Beavs vying for a Pac-12 North title alongside Oregon and Washington State. Oregon State fans should feel good about the job he has done so far, and especially excited if new DC Trent Bray is able to elevate that side of the ball from previous seasons.
