The latest round of conference rumors have come courtesy of CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd, who reported that the Big 12 Conference is looking at adding 6 (!!) Pac-12 schools. That list he reported includes Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, and Colorado. Such talks are unlikely to be the last associations/conversations between the Pac-12 and Big 12 conferences as they seek to remain relevant and keep pace with the Big 10 and SEC.
On today's episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin breaks down the latest (and ever-evolving) news regarding conference realignment. With some of its biggest schools/brands on their way out in the coming years, the Pac-12 and Big 12 suddenly find themselves in similar predicaments. A partnership/alliance between the two conferences to join forces seems to make a lot of sense.
Lots of Pac-12 fans are understandably upset that the demise of the conference of champions may be unfolding before our very eyes. Was this all inevitable or could it have been prevented? Former Notre Dame QB and current FOX Sports analyst/contributor Brady Quinn recently suggested one way (regarding USC) that this all may never have come to pass. At this point in time, USC is reminiscent of Anakin Skywalker.
