Description
After a stellar 2021 season that included Utah's first ever Pac-12 Championship, Utah Football has high hopes for 2022. With Cam Rising back at QB and RB Tavion Thomas returning to provide production in the ground game, the Utes have a strong foundation heading into 2022 with multiple All-Pac 12 performers from a season ago. In an era where turnover and change is rampant, having such quality players returning to the roster is a big advantage for Utah.
On this episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin takes a look at the biggest takeaways from Kyle Whittingham's latest Spring Game with the Utes. To complement Tavion Thomas in the backfield, 4-star freshman RB Jaylon Glover showed real promise in Utah's Spring Game. With the departure of Britain Covey to the NFL, Utah fans are likely wondering who will be catching passes this Fall from Cam Rising. Devaughn Vele and Makai Cope both had excellent Spring Game performances, and figure to be major weapons this year.
Utah's defense has long been stellar under Kyle Whittingham, and last year was no exception. After losing Devin Lloyd (pick #27 to the Jags) and Nephi Sewell to the NFL, the linebacking unit could be poised to take a step back from their stellar 2021 campaign. Kyle Whittingham and DC Morgan Scalley made a wise move in adding Florida transfer LB Mohamoud Diabate, who might need to step into a leadership role for Utah's defense this year.
