Description

Please Leave a Review!   It’s A Tale of Two Hygienists’ monthly student roundtable episode, which means Andrew and Michelle have invited a roster of guests to educate student listeners on a chosen topic. To kick off August, Michelle speaks with a trio of professionals on the subject of joining and building a team.   Ryan Coulon, DDS, is a dentist based in Midland, TX who has been practicing for seven years. He owns and manages three different practices and is the co-founder of Inspero, a coaching and consulting group for dentists. Mary Osborne has worked in dentistry over 50 years! She spent the first half of her career as a dental hygienist and patient facilitator, and since then has consulted dental practices on patient care and communication. Anna Jo Blakesley is a dental hygienist who has been working in Orange County practice for the past five years.   In this episode, the guests address what to ask or say when interviewing for a hygienist position, discuss how you confront a practice’s lack of safety culture, and give a few pointers for building up confidence to ask the tough questions.     EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS:   Interview starts: 3:33   - What should we ask and communicate while interviewing for a dental hygienist position?   - Anna Jo relates the tale of her surprisingly short first interview.   - How do you handle an office where there isn’t really a culture around safety or communication?   - Mary on balancing steadfast core values with open-minded curiosity.   - Anna Jo discusses the benefits of going outside your comfort zone, even if you don’t like what you find.   - Dr. Coulon’s advice for reducing dissent and distrust within a practice.       QUOTES:   “We’re not looking just for a warm body who has a good clinical skill set—that’s great—but we wanna have values alignment.”   “You can’t know which questions to ask if you don’t know who you are.”   “The more you engage in ‘fierce conversations,’ as I like to call them, they cease being hard or difficult and they just become conversations with people that you care about.”   “I wanna not just learn how to do stuff—I wanna learn why you do it the way you do so that I can really represent this practice well.”   “There’s a lot of things [dentistry] doesn’t have to be, but it’s easy to believe it has to be that way.”   LINKS:   Inspero homepage - https://insperoteam.com/ Ryan’s email - ryan@insperoteam.com    Mary’s homepage - http://www.maryosborne.com/ Mary’s email - mary@maryosborne.com    Anna Jo’s email - annajo.rdhap@gmail.com    A Tale of Two Hygienists homepage - https://ataleoftwohygienists.com/     AToTH on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/aTaleOfTwoHygienists/     AToTH on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ataleoftwohygienists     AToTH on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/atoth/?originalSubdomain=ca
