Description

It is incredible to realize there are over 40,000 veteran focused non-profits.  The heartbreaking part is the majority of them have a lifespan of 1 year! So many people have altruistic intentions, only to find themselves overwhelmed with the business side needed to keep the nonprofit running.Donna and Jay bring in guest host Michelle Lang - veteran spouse, mom, and founder of the nonprofit, Veteran Help Point. They discuss why Veteran Help Point was launched, what it took to start it, and tips to think about before starting a nonprofit.Michelle Lang has been a military spouse for about 6 years. She graduated college with a bachelor’s degree in Business/Sports Management and went on to work in the wellness field as a Community Health and Wellness Coordinator. Here, she helped assess the needs of the community and fill them by finding programs to implement. She left that job in 2015 to join her now husband in Fort Drum and began struggling to find meaningful work again. Shortly after her husband transitioned from the military in 2019, they were made aware of the severe gap of finding local veteran resources to help her husband and family. Through this struggle, Michelle began to think about a big picture solution to this issue. Their family moved down to Fort Bragg after her husband rejoined Active Duty and that is where Veteran Help Point began in November 2021. Today Michelle advocates for military spouses and veterans by connecting them to local resources they need while building the database of local resources through Veteran Help Point. Contact InformationWebsite: www.veteranhelppoint.comFacebook- Veteran Help PointInstagram- @veteranhelppointTwitter- @vethelppointTikTok- @veteranhelppointPinterest- Veteran Help PointDonna’s LinksWebsite: www.rebel-llc.comBook: Warrior to Patriot Citizen (2017)Blog: Taking Off The ArmorIG: @thetransitioningwarriorTwitter: @wtpcFB: The Transitioning WarriorJay’s LinksWebsite: https://j2servantleadership.com/ Book: Breaking Average (2020)Stay up to date and gain early access to new podcasts and upcoming events by signing up for our newsletter at Coming Home Well NewsletterFollow us on IG @cominghomwell_bts and @behindtheservicepodcastFacebook at Coming Home Well or Behind The ServiceLinkedIn at Coming Home Well
