Now this can be a phrase we use to talk about behavior, usually children's behavior or just something that's good again, here's a couple of examples. When our kids were little, sometimes my sister would babysit for us. And when we came home, my sister would say, your kids were as good as gold all night. That means that the children behaved. They listened to her. They weren't mean, they didn't do anything bad. They were as good as gold. They were really good. Our kids were usually as good as gold. That's not actually true. We also use this to talk about something that is whole again or good again. When someone has a heart of gold, it means they're really kind. It means they're very truthful. It means they're just a really, really good person. Whenever I think of someone who has a heart of gold, I always think of my grandmother. When I was a kid, my grandmother has passed away by the way. But when I was a kid, my grandmother definitely had a heart of gold. She was always kind, she always gave us candy. She was always ready to listen if we wanted to talk to her, she was a really, really nice person. So my grandmother had a heart of gold.So to review, when you say something is as good as gold, it can mean that someone's behavior is really good or it can mean something that was broken or sore is now better. And when you say that someone has a heart of gold, to have a heart of gold means that you are very kind, you are very pleasant and you are very helpful.But hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Brent from Speak English With This Guy. And Brent says no way, just yesterday the guy who fixed my car said the tire was shot when I picked it up, and my reply, I hope it didn't cost too much to get it fixed.So once again, the video from, or the lesson from a few days ago, I talked about the phrase, it's shot. And Brent is saying that when he went to the garage, the mechanic said his tire was shot. So obviously Brent got it fixed. And hopefully it didn't cost him too much.Hey, we have a couple vehicles and sometimes we get things fixed on them as well. This red van just recently went in for an oil change. That's all done now, there was one other thing wrong with it. The ignition, when you turn the key, it doesn't always work properly. So instead of just telling the mechanic to fix it, I said, why don't you give me a quote? So he's going to figure out how much that would cost. And then he's going to let me know how much it's going to be. I didn't wanna say, go ahead and fix it 'cause I thought it might be really, really pricey.My blue van is right here. My blue van has been very, very reliable. In English, when we say something like that, like something's been reliable. We also then say, I should knock on wood. Maybe I should go to the tree here and knock on wood. When you say something has been going good or it's been very reliable and then you say you should knock on wood. It's for good luck 'cause I don't want something to go wrong with it right now. Support the show
