Description
Dr. Jamie Orr is a successful entrepreneur, physicist, and educator with expertise across a wide range of technical fields. She is passionate about helping young companies and students alike to thrive and discover their potential. She is a co-founder of Mountain Lab, Lake Tahoe's first co-working space and innovation hub. Jamie also teaches courses in physics, mathematics, chemistry, and green sustainable education, and consults in the areas of economic development, entrepreneurship, and education. Playing Small Moment Jamie was crushed when an advisor in her department didn’t show up for the faculty meeting, which would have helped her along in becoming a Ph.D. candidate. After the initial sting wore off, she decided she would move away from Physics and into the study of law. She was accepted into six different law schools before being persuaded back into the Physics program. The Wake Up Call Jamie’s wake up call came almost a year after her daughter was born. Jamie and her husband were going through photos and realized most of their happiness came from their visits to Lake Tahoe―not from Silicon Valley. So, they just packed up and moved to Lake Tahoe. Style of Leadership Jamie likes to lead by teaching people and by working in collaboration with them. She wants the people around her to reach their potential and to accomplish things. Current Leadership Challenge Jamie needs to give herself permission to say no, because she realizes she may experience burnout if she doesn’t take time for herself. What Are You Excited About? Jamie is excited to be integrating the concepts of physics into her community projects. What Does Your Business Support System Look Like? Jamie has a balanced team of business partners and family who inspire her and amaze her every single day. Leadership Practice Jamie is a teacher by nature and she believes in elevating those around her. Book to Develop Leadership Brain Rules by John Medina Advice For Younger Self “Failure is an opportunity to try a different direction. So, don’t be so hard on yourself.” Inspirational Quote “Be kinder than is necessary because you never know what someone else is going through.” ~ Jamie Orr Links http://tahoemountainlab.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamieforr Find more resources at https://womentakingthelead.com
