Description
The number of electric vehicles on the road in the United States grew fivefold between 2011 and 2015 but the number of public charging stations capable of quickly charging these vehicles remains low. According to the US Department of Energy, there are 2,200 fast charging stations in the United States; there are 168,000 gas stations. Because most automakers and the US government have yet to fund fast charging infrastructure, private businesses need to step in to establish the infrastructure needed for mass adoption of electric vehicles. Certain retail-types are best-suited to capture growing demand: those with ample parking, a variety of location types, and stable or growing in-store demand.
