Income inequality, which is the gap between earnings of the rich and poor, creates a major digital divide between consumer groups worldwide. Telecommunications companies tend to develop infrastructure in areas that can afford services and price these services accordingly, alienating low-income consumers and fragmenting the telecoms markets.  One solution to this digital divide is internet enabled mobile devices, which are generally cheaper in both price point and internet subscription.
