Western Europe is usually ahead of the rest of the world in mobile communication network strength and speed. 4G, or the 'fourth generation' of mobile broadband communications, has been around for several years but Western Europe has yet to widely adopt the technology. Consumers are still using 3G phones even though 4G is available - this is due to the fact that 4G capable phones and the service itself are expensive.
