Description

Spence and Buzz had the pleasure of chatting with SUPERDOC @RJKAMA. We chat about what got him into collecting and he gives one of the more thoughtful answers we have had on the show. All of us are collectors, it just manifests itself in different passions. Currently for those of us listening to the show it is watches. We also get his opinion, to a degree, on the stainles steel Rolex sport model craze. This part of the conversation takes a fun turn as we all revisit hype items of the past (who doesn't love Beanie Babies!).RJ is a passionate Seiko and Grand Seiko collector. He recently was able to go on a trip to the Seiko Factory in Japan to see how these beautiful timepieces are created. He was able to share some of the details from that trip, and how it fuels his passion for what they are able to produce. We then shift to another brand that is near and dear to his heart, Omega. While he has a soft spot for Omega, the conversation centers more around some of their interesting decisions as of late with their core models. He will always have a passion for what they do, but hopes they get back to their brand foundation.Lastly, we talk a bit about the Movember initiative and mens' health. This is a particular area of focus for him as he says he lives it every day in his clinic. There is a stigma for men of a certain age showing "weakness" by seeking out help for medical and mental issues. As a doctor, his main focus is to raise awareness as to how good prognoses can be for some of these issues that can effect men our age. Testicular cancer in particular, if caught early, has a fantastic prognosis. Also, folks dealing with depression caused by chemical imbalances can be treated. There is no shame in having an underactive thyroid gland, why should any other hormonal imbalance be treated differently. It was an overwhelmingly positive message that a lot of us should heed, especially in a difficult year as 2020 has been. It was great sitting down with RJ, and the conversation is one we hope you enjoy!
