Description

Things weren't always rosy for Southwestern Oklahoma State women's basketball.  After a dominant 1980's run as one of the top NAIA teams in the country, the move to Division II was grinding on the Lady Bulldogs. Enter Kelsi Bond (now Musick).  The brash young head coach arrived with a wild plan.  Run and gun. Push the tempo.  Dribble drive motion.  Threes and layups. No mid-range jumpers. She won three games (3!) in her first year. But she and the Lady Dawgs kept at it, believing in their wildly aggressive system, and things came around. They won the 2012 Great American Conference Tournament championship, starting a run that eventually culminated in a 35-2 season in 2018-19.  The Lady Dawgs came up just short in the Division II National Championship game, falling to Lubbock Christian in double overtime. In this interview Musick explains why she stayed with her system through thick and thin, and talks about the big defensive switch that turned her team from a good team to a great team.
